The Lotus Esprit is a sports car that was built by Lotus in the United Kingdom between 1976 and 2005. The silver Italdesign concept that eventually became the Esprit was unveiled at the Turin Motor Show in 1972 as a concept car, and was a development of a stretched Lotus Europa chassis. It was among the first of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro’s polygonal “folded paper” designs. Originally, the name Kiwi was proposed, but in keeping with the Lotus tradition of having all car model names start with the letter “E”, the name became Esprit.
From 1996 the Esprit V8 used Lotus’ self-developed all-aluminium, twin-turbocharged (Garrett T25/60 turbos) 90-degree V-8, Code-named Type 918, in front of the Derek Bell developed and uprated gearbox that overcame a lot of the gearbox problems with a much thicker single piece input shaft. The Type 918 engine was detuned from a potential 500 bhp (373 kW; 507 PS) to 350 bhp (261 kW; 355 PS) to prevent gearbox damage. In period tests, zero to sixty miles per hour came in at 4.4 seconds and top speeds of over 175 mph (282 km/h) were achieved
It’s with great regret that I am selling my 1999 V8 Turbo, first registered 15/09/1999 the car spent its first 10 years in the UK before residing in the Toulouse region of Southern France where it remained. Finished in Lotus Racing Green with Black leather, this vehicle has a comprehensive history folder from both the UK and france and has covered a mere 62817 miles with a full engine rebuild at 51000 miles.
