This is my 1971 Lotus Europa S2 that I am reluctantly putting up for sale having bought an S1 Elise about 12 months ago and very recently moved house. Unfortunately I don’t now have the spare time to get the outstanding jobs completed and get the car MOT’d and back on the road.

I bought this car from a friend in late-2007 who’d owned it since the early 1990s. The car is a Type 65 Federal-spec car that was converted some time back to take a Lotus Twin-Cam engine and Renault (Type 395) 5-Speed gearbox. Due to its year of registration the car is tax exempt and benefits from classic car insurance.

The car is currently SORN’d having last been used on the road in 2010 however it has been garaged almost all of this time and the engine has been turned over and was very recently started when a new battery was fitted.

The bodywork is in good (not concours) condition however there are a few cracks and star-crazing often associated with a fibreglass-bodied car of this age. The interior is in good condition and complete, the only job that may need doing is to re-veneer and lacquer the dashboard.

Prior to an MOT test the following jobs will be required:-

- Replace the fibre-board bulkhead between the engine and the cabin

- Repair/replace the passenger upper seat belt mount. I bought new static seat belts to replace the old 4-point belts previously mounted in the car as these were attached to a centrally-mounted roll bar (included in the sale but not suitable for competition use) and the seat backs themselves.

- Repair speedometer drive at the gearbox end

- Attention to the handbrake, it works but was marginal for the last MOT

-Twin Weber carburettors require adjustment and may benefit from a strip-down and rebuild.

- Rear offside lamp is cracked.

In addition the car could also do with a service (oil, oil filter, plugs etc) and there are very slight leaks from the engine and gearbox that any new owner may wish to rectify.

The car also comes complete with a folder containing all the receipts, MOTs, etc that were passed to me by the previous owner as well as any other documents from my time with the car. There are also a few spares included such as heater, choke, clutch and speedo cables.

I have covered relatively few miles in the Europa as most free time over the past 2-3 years has been taken up supporting my eldest son’s kart racing but I have made two trips to Le Mans with the Europa which were great fun.

I have tried to be as honest and accurate as possible in describing the car and the price reflects the fact that some work is required to get it back on the road. Please contact me if you would like any more specific details, I also have many more pictures I can provide on request.
